Baltimore Orioles vs New York Yankees
Joe D'Amico Pick - My friends, it’s no secret that I’m a diehard Yankees fan. And to be quite honest with you, it’s hard to say, but the season isn’t looking too bright right now. Granted, they got a few key players sidelined. A big part of their success rides on their offensive prowess. And a couple of big names have not been in the lineup the last few weeks. They also have a couple of pitchers that would make a difference as well. On the hitting front, I can’t remember the last time they ranked 17th in runs scored and 27th in team batting average. The one thing that is giving me some hope is that the pitching staff still ranks fourth in the Majors, with a team ERA of 3.70. The Orioles are playing good ball, guys.
They sit in second place in the most competitive division of baseball, just 5.0 games back. These two teams have met nine times in 2023, with New York taking five of the nine meetings. The Yankees did take Games 1 and 2 of this series, but lost Game 3 yesterday. In my opinion, today’s matchup is all about the starting pitchers. Bradish and Severino are scheduled to here, folks. The Baltimore right-hander is 4-4 with a 3.58 ERA on the campaign.
And he has pitched well of late. However, he did give up four earned runs back at the end of May at Yankee Stadium, only going five innings pitched, in what would eventually turn out to be a loss for the team. Over his career, he’s really struggled against New York, going 0-1 with a 5.02 ERA in three lifetime starts against them. Looking at the New York right-hander, let’s face it, there was a lot of high hopes for him this season. He is a dismal 1-3 with a 6.30 ERA. And…he comes off one of his worst starts ever. He got shelled on July 1, in St. Louis, giving up seven runs in just for innings pitched. BUT… there’s always a but, and you know how much I like a very, very big but LOL, BUT he has been significantly stronger at home, going 1-0 with a 2.55 ERA. And even a bigger BUT…over his career, in 12 appearances, which includes 10 starts against the Orioles, HE HAS DOMINATED, going 7-1 with a 3.39 ERA. Which, by the way guys does include a record of 6-0, his past six starts against the O’s. I like the situation here today for him to bounce back. I also like the fact that Baltimore has lost five of the last seven on the road and six of the last eight overall. I like New York as an underdog in the Bronx today folks. Thank you.
