The 20th-ranked team in the nation, now travels to Carver-Hawkeye Arena and find themselves an underdog against an unranked opponent. As I mentioned earlier, this will extra motivate the Cyclones. Following their only loss of the season on a neutral site against Connecticut, Iowa State has won their last two, including a December 4th decisive victory over Saint John’s, 71-60. Over the last two weeks, Iowa has become point spread poison, failing to cover three of their last four outings.

Not only that, but they’ve dropped two of their last three straight up to both TCU and Duke. Against the Horned Frogs, they were a 6.5-point favorite and lost by 13. Against the Blue Devils, they were a one-point dog and got crushed by 12. Statistics can be deceiving.

They rank 21st in the nation in scoring, averaging over 83.4 points per game overall. However, against TCU and Duke, they averaged just 64 points per game. They must now face one of the most frustrating and toughest defenses in college basketball. Iowa State owns a top 10 “D” allowing only 56.8 points per game, just 37% shooting from the floor, and only 26% from beyond the arc.
